The Island of Korcula is one of the islands in Central Dalmatia, the southern region of Croatia, along Adriatic Coast. It is located between cities of Split and Dubrovnik and between islands of Hvar and Mljet. The island is divided from Peljesac Peninsula by 1 km wide Peljesac Channel. It is 47 kilometers long and about 7 km wide. Korèula has numerous smal islands, beautiful bays and beaches. Southern shores of the islands are steeper, unsheltered form the southern open sea and south wind and northern shores of Korcula, facing mainland and Peljesac Peninsula, are less steeper, with nice pebble beaches. Sandy beaches are located near village of Lumbarda. Due to it's geographical position, Korcula was very early populated, and during the history it was important walled medieval city.
